Jeffreys Bay is beautiful. We live in a place called UCSA which is a compound with cabins and focuses on housing people who are doing ministry around Jeffreys. They also host camps where up to a couple hundred kids will come for up to a week. They held a camp this past weekend so we had to leave and go to their partner camp called “The Bush”. Long story short, it was freezing cold, we cooked our food in sticks over a fire, out cabin was infested with huge spiders, and it was incredible BEAUTIFUL.
JBay itself is probably my new favourite place. I love the fact that I live about a 30 second walk from main street and a 1 minute walk from the beach. You can find almost anything you need at 3 stores; Mr. Price, Pep, and Clicks but if you feel like shopping there are many surf stores including a Billabong outlet, Ripcurl, and Roxy. Basically JBay appears to be a paradise but on the inside it is hurting. Its about a 3 minute walk to the nearest township. In town it is easy to overlook the poverty because of the beautiful view and fancy restaurants but in the townships it is unavoidable. During our town scavenger hunt we visited the Pellsrus Health Clinic, the Joshua Project and Itemba and it was overwhelming. In the clinic people filled every inch of space waiting to get seen by a doctor and we stayed for over an hour at Itemba just loving on the little kids. There is so much need for love.
Please pray for my team as we start building relationships with people in the community; that they would grow to be strong and loving. Pray for strength and joy and that we can be Jesus to the people we come across.
